If I was sitting at the Berrick/Rich dinner table and it was my turn to answer the question, ‘what was my best thing for the day?’ I would have to say a cool, bug free day. Such joy! It has been windy all day but has started to drop this evening. The morning was cloudy but we had some sun this afternoon.

Our forced “rest” day gave us the opportunity to sleep in very late and wash ourselves and the laundry. John cleaned out the tent and I was able to do a major inventory of the food drums. As I suspected we are going to be short of Red River cereal but otherwise we should be okay. I have been giving us double the amount of cereal I originally calculated for each morning so the shortfall is on my head.

The contents of all three food drums, two and a half weeks into our trip, what's left will have to get us to Baker Lake, still over a month away

It has been great to be able to sit and enjoy the great view from our high-on-the hill camp site without being savaged by black flies. John fished this evening and hooked three fish with his first four casts but all got away. After a further fifteen minutes he got a nice young northern pike. I turned this into yummy small fillets, delicious with fish mix and couscous. As the wind dropped the black flies reappeared so we were in the tent by 6.30 pm to read and listen to Radio Australia.
